ABOUT CARMEL KUTAM?
In the 18th century, the Konkan belt of India came under the Religious leadership of the Carmelites. The first three Vicars Apostolic of Mangalore were Carmelites, who vibrantly catered to the spiritual life of the faithful in and around Mangalore. Through their committed hard work, the presences of Cloistered Carmel Nuns, Apostolic Carmel sisters and the Third Order of Carmel were established and thus the faithful of Mangalore had the privilege of imbibing the spirituality of the Carmelite Order. The devotions associated with the Carmelite Order, such as wearing the brown scapular, singing the Canticle, and reciting the Carmelite rosary are just a few examples. Today the people of Mangalore have spread all over the world. Bangalore being the capital of Karnataka, there are about two lakh Konkani speaking people living in this city.
